Job Opportunity – Assistant Director of Music Ministries

asst_music_dir_jobOver the summer Adria Schumann, our Director of Music Ministries will be semi-retiring. Due to this staffing change, Wesley is creating a new position: Assistant Director of Music Ministries.

This is a full-time position with benefits, starting June 1, 2016. This position entails the assumption of responsibilities for direction and spiritual leadership of the youth music ministry. Youth Music Ministry consists of planning, scheduling, recruiting and leading 3 youth choirs, an annual choir tour, and special events. The Assistant Director is also responsible for monthly planning with the praise team, weekly bulletin planning with pastors, and summer music coordination. There are regular meetings with the extended music staff, volunteers, and worship groups to assist this role that is key to the heart of Wesley’s ministry. The Assistant Director also provides backup to the Director of Music Ministry for planned and unplanned absences. Apprenticeship opportunity to eventually assume Director of Music Ministry position when it is available.

A Music degree is required. Spiritual nurturing and relationship building with pre-teens and teens are key to the perception of success in this position.

Assistant Director of Music Duties:

  • Junior High/Senior High Chorus – 1 rehearsal per week and planning for that rehearsal. Includes singing in worship once a month and special occasions.
  • Senior High selected small choral ensemble – 4 rehearsals per month. Includes planning and sing in worship once a month and special occasions.
    • Choir Tour for Junior/Senior High groups which includes alternating between a full week and mini-tour schedules. Includes:
      • Planning route, lining up performance sites, selecting music and preparing.
      • Participating on the leadership team for major Church fundraiser, a Churchwide Rummage Sale, which is the primary fundraising for Choir Tour and other mission trips.
      • Choir Tours may need additional fundraisers and preparatory concerts.
  • School Age Chorus (2nd grade to 5th grade) – 1 rehearsal per week, including planning and singing in worship once a month and special occasions
    • Annual Children’s Musical performed at a worship service.
  • Music Schedule Planning, including (but not limited to):
    • Summer music planning (recruiting special music performers)
    • Summer Choir direction (once a month)
    • Special programming (such as visiting choirs, instrumentalists, and other special programs)
  • Annual Budget and Payroll duties (shared with Director of Music)
  • Meeting Participation:
    • Monthly Music Staff Meeting
    • Weekly General church staff meeting
    • Monthly worship team meeting
    • Monthly planning with praise team leader for 11:15 service
    • Weekly bulletin meeting with pastors
